Beat Overwhelm with Quick Wins

When the to-do list feels endless and you’re tempted to shut down, start with the simplest task. Each small win builds momentum, reduces mental load, and pulls you back into progress.

I’m behind, my to-do list keeps getting longer, and I’m feeling overwhelmed. What do I do?

My default used to be: distract myself, avoid the list, and hope I’d feel better later. Spoiler… that never worked.

Now, when I feel that creeping sense of shutdown, I flip the script. I start with the quickest, simplest thing on my list. Then the next one. Then another.

It’s not about clearing everything. It’s about building momentum:
  - I see progress stacking up.
  - My brain gets lighter because the “too much to do” weight starts to lighten.
  - I feel energy instead of dread.

That’s how I ended up writing this very post (albeit later than my normal timeline). It wasn’t the biggest task on my list, but it kept the momentum going.

So here’s the tip:
When you feel overwhelmed, don’t chase the hardest or most important thing first. Take 10 seconds to spot the easiest, fastest win. And then do it. Then the next one. Let momentum carry you back into motion.

Small actions compound. Sometimes, that’s all it takes to turn a stuck day into a productive one.
