Make Progress the Agile Way
Agile isn’t just for software. Break big goals into small cycles, test what matters, and let each step teach you what to do next.
Most people wait until they feel certain before making a move.
But the truth is, clarity often follows action, not the other way around.
In the early years of software development, the “Waterfall” process was the standard — each step (requirements, design, implementation, verification, maintenance) had to be completed before the next could begin. Then came “Agile,” which emphasized iteration: build, test, learn, adjust. Embrace change, not resist it.
Over my career, I’ve had to tackle massive, multi-year software engineering projects. The most successful ones weren’t the ones with the most detailed plans, but the ones that truly embraced agile practices. We chunked off parts of the effort, developed, tested, deployed, and evaluated if it met the intended needs of the users — then repeated the process.
I’ve found that this same process works just as well in life. You don’t need the whole plan before you begin. You need the first step, and the willingness to evaluate, learn, and adapt along the way.
So here’s my challenge as we start a new week: Don’t wait for perfect certainty.
Pick one area of your life or work where you’ve been stalling, take a single action, and treat it like an iteration. See what you learn, then decide the next step. Progress, like clarity, compounds one cycle at a time.
Lead With Intention. Grow With Purpose.
💬 What’s one action you’ve been delaying that you could “test” this week?
