New Leaders Do Not Need More Certainty to Start Adding Value
Many emerging leaders stay stuck waiting to feel ready, when the real growth begins by stepping in with what they already have and continuing to learn.
Most new leaders don’t hold back because they lack talent. They hold back because they’re waiting for a level of certainty that doesn’t actually exist.
They think they need one more credential, one more year of experience, or one more skill before they can finally provide real value.
However, early leadership is rarely about showing up as a finished product. It’s about being willing to step up with what you do have and the endurance to keep growing in public while doing the work.
Some of the most valuable leaders I’ve worked with aren't the ones who felt most ready. They were the ones who were observant, coachable, and willing to take ownership before they felt fully ready.
You don't have to be the expert in the room to be useful. Sometimes value is just following through on a commitment or addressing the issue that everyone else is avoiding.
Skill gaps still matter and closing them is part of the job. But many emerging leaders spend too much time waiting to become impressive, when they were already capable of being useful long before that.
Growth starts when you stop asking what you’re still missing and start looking at how you can help with what you already have.
