The Box I Keep Promising Myself I’ll Sort Through
Some projects never make it off the “when life slows down” list. Often the real progress is not finishing them, just taking them out of the box.
I have a box of papers and workbooks from leadership development programs I have either facilitated or been a part of. It sits next to my desk.
Every year I tell myself I'm going to go through it, organize it, and index it. Every year I picture doing it in the cold winter months when I do not want to go outside and life slows down.
And every March, I look at the box, look outside at the warm weather, and think I missed my chance.
This morning I at least emptied the box onto the floor.
We'll see whether I actually sort through the pile over the next few months or step over the mess for a while until I quietly put everything back in the box again. Either way, it was a small reminder that a lot of the things we say we'll get to when life slows down or the moment is right require us to take one simple move first.
Sometimes that move feels big. Sometimes it's as small as taking something out of the box and putting it where you have to actually see it.
So my challenge to you this week: what's one small thing you could take out of the box this week?
