The Trap of Too Much Content

Overwhelmed by books, podcasts, and posts? Growth doesn’t come from consuming more content—it comes from applying what you learn.

We live in an age of too much content.

Books. Podcasts. Webinars. Blog posts (yes, even this one).

Everyone promises the “one best way” to find success, joy, or a million-dollar business. It’s easy to get stuck consuming instead of doing.

Honestly, I think part of this starts with how we’re educated. From a young age, we’re taught to cram, memorize, ace the test… and then we forget most of it. What we rarely practice is applying what we’ve learned until it becomes a habit.

And that carries into adulthood. We scroll, we listen, we watch… but how often do we stop and say, “What am I actually going to do with this?”

Here’s the truth: if what you’re consuming doesn’t lead to action, you didn’t really learn it. So instead of chasing more content, try this:
- Write down a goal, and make sure you understand your Why.
  - Find the content or idea that resonates with you and aligns with that goal.
  - Test it out by putting it into practice for 30 days.
  - After 30 days, evaluate: did it help you make progress?
  - Keep what worked, let the rest go.
  - Repeat with the next idea.

Don’t just collect ideas. Use them. Make small, steady steps aligned with your purpose and your why. That’s how you find success in whatever way you define it.

P.S. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by choosing the “right” content, too. Instead of just following whoever shouts the loudest or has the most followers, look at the people living the kind of career, relationships, or life you want. Find out what they’ve learned from and let that guide what you consume next.
