Where Leadership Begins

Why showing up is still the most underrated leadership trait.

They’re not here for titles.

They’re here to grow — to lead with courage, compassion, and purpose.

This week I’m volunteering at HOBY Maryland, a 4-day leadership seminar for high school sophomores.

Most students show up not knowing what to expect. Many are nervous, unsure, or brand new to leadership.

But they show up.
They lean in.
They contribute.
And they grow.

The first step is often the hardest — but it’s also where growth begins. Leadership starts when you choose to show up, stay open, and give it your all.

It’s a reminder we all need sometimes:
The more you put in, the more you get out.

Not just in leadership — but in life.
